telc B1 Hören Teil 3: listen to the end of each announcement
- 5sentences to tick
- 5short announcements
- 2×you hear each announcement twice
What the paper looks like
HörverstehenTeil 3
Sie hören fünf kurze Ansagen. Sind die Aussagen richtig oder falsch? Kreuzen Sie an.

This is Hören Teil 3, just like on exam day. You hear five short announcements two times each, and for each one you tick „Richtig“ or „Falsch“.
The method
-
1Read the question first
-
2Listen for the time, place or number that the question names
-
3Check your tick on the second listen
Let's do question 16 together
1Read the question first
Question 16
16 Der Zug nach München fährt um 14.40 Uhr.
Question 16 names a time, 14.40 Uhr. So you listen for the time the train leaves.
2Listen for the time, place or number that the question names
What you heard
Achtung an Gleis 4. Der Zug nach München fährt nicht um 14.10 Uhr, sondern erst um 14.40 Uhr.
You hear nicht um 14.10 Uhr
, ‘not at 14.10’, first. Then you hear sondern erst um 14.40 Uhr
, ‘but only at 14.40’. The time after „sondern“ is the one that counts.
3Check your tick on the second listen
16 Der Zug nach München fährt um 14.40 Uhr.
- R Richtig✓
- F Falsch✕
The train leaves at 14.40, so question 16 is right. You tick „Richtig“, and on the second listen you check that you heard the time right.

An announcement can give two times or two places. The question names one of them, so wait until you hear which one belongs to it.
Your turn: question 16
16 Um 9 Uhr fährt die Fähre heute ab.
Not quite. Play it again. At what time does the ferry leave?
What you heard
Information für alle Reisenden: Die Fähre nach Lindwerder fährt heute erst um elf Uhr. Der Wind ist zu stark.
The answer is Falsch
. The question says 9 o'clock. The announcement says erst um elf Uhr
, ‘not before eleven’, and gives the wind as the reason. The ferry does not leave at 9.
The answer and the explanation are shown above.
Why the first time you hear can be wrong
In Teil 3 the speaker often says one time or place and then the one that counts. Here are three ways it happens.
-
The speaker says „nicht“ and then the real time
die Sauna schließt heute nicht um 23 Uhr, sondern schon um 20 Uhr
.nicht um 23 Uhr
means ‘not at 11 pm’. The time that counts comes aftersondern
, ‘but’. The sentence “The sauna closes at 23 Uhr today” is „Falsch“. -
The speaker corrects themselves
der Stadtlauf startet heute um 10 Uhr, nein, Entschuldigung, um 11 Uhr
.nein, Entschuldigung
means ‘no, sorry’. The speaker takes back10 Uhr
and gives a new time. The sentence “The city run starts at 11 Uhr today” is „Richtig“. -
The speaker names two places
Bitte essen Sie im Café im vierten Stock.
Dort gibt es heute Pizza.
The canteen is closed, and the pizza is in the café. The sentence “There is pizza in the café on the fourth floor today” is „Richtig“.
So listen to the end of every announcement. Words like sondern
, ‘but’, and nein
, ‘no’, show you that the time or place is about to change.
